Yee-Melichar elected a Board Secretary of California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR)
Darlene Yee-Melichar, Professor and Coordinator of the Gerontology Program in the School of Public Affairs and Community Engagement, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the California Advocates for Nursing Homes Reform (CANHR; http://www.canhr.org/about/index.html) with offices in both the San Francisco Bay Area and the Greater Los Angeles Area.
Since 1983, California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), a statewide nonprofit 501(c)(3) advocacy organization, has been dedicated to improving the choices, care and quality of life for California’s long term care consumers. Through direct advocacy, community education, legislation and litigation it has been CANHR’s goal to educate and support long term care consumers and advocates regarding the rights and remedies under the law, and to create a united voice for long term care reform and humane alternatives to institutionalization.
Dr. Yee-Melichar was also elected as CANHR Board Secretary, and she was active in helping to plan CANHR’s 35thAnniversary Fundraising Gala which took place on May 4, 2019 at SF State’s Towers Conference Center. The Gala included a long-term care justice & advocacy networking reception, buffet dinner and live auction. Gerontology student volunteers were invited to attend for free through a very generous contribution by Christopher Cherney, MAwho is an Alumnus and Lecturer in SF State’s Gerontology Program. Thank you, Christopher, for your thoughtful donation and paying it forward!
