Dr. Gen appointed to Petaluma Board of Education
Associate Professor Sheldon Gen(School of Public Affairs & Civic Engagement) was recently appointed to the Board of Education for Petaluma City Schools. The district serves 7,500 P-12 students at 18 schools, with a staff of more than 800. He will complete the term of a board member who unexpectedly died earlier this year. His term runs through 2020. In his interview with the board, Gen highlighted three key issues he will advance: closing the opportunity and achievement gaps in Petaluma’s schools; partnering with the City of Petaluma to deliver co-curricular, extracurricular and family services to support student learning; and raising funds for the district. Gen has previously served on Petaluma’s Transit Advisory Committee and is currently serving on the Climate Action Advisory Committee of Sonoma County’s Regional Climate Protection Authority. At SF State, Gen teaches in the MPA and Ed.D. programs and publishes on issues of public policy and civic engagement.
