Associate Professor Ernie Joaquin’s Fall 2016 PA 727-Community Service Learning (CSL) class participated in a program design and outreach initiative for the benefit of the City of South San Francisco. The “Adopt-a-Storm Drain” initiative has now officially been launched by South San Francisco’s Public Works Department, led by Councilmember Mark Addiego. Volunteers keep storm drains free from litter and debris from their adopted drain, and the city provides them with necessary materials to do it. The CSL student team was composed of Samantha Akwei, Hilary DouglasLana Martinez and Anthony Perez.  “I am proud of the work of this team, and grateful to have been able to conduct a course without connected with community about real issues,” Joaquin said.
