Democracy in Action: MPA Student Examines Decision-Making in SF Rec & Parks

Currently in her final semester of the MPA program at SF State, Taylor Cheatham recently shared her work on the role of administrative discretion in democratic decision making at SF State’s Grad Slam Event, where she was selected as a semi-finalist. By day, Taylor serves as a Captain and Gardener with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department in the Diamond Heights neighborhood. Her dedication to public service led her to the MPA program where she developed a passion for policy development and implementation. Her research interests include administrative ethics, performance management regimes within law enforcement agencies, and administrative discretion. She is the proud wife of a member of the San Francisco Fire Department and mother to two kittens: Winston and Morris. 

Taylor has won several awards, including the MPA Program’s Distinguished Student Award for 2024, SF Recreation and Parks’ William Hammond Hall Award for her vision and dedication to city parklands, and the SFPD Ingleside Station's Rose Ann Harris Good Neighbor Award for community service.
