Learn about meaningful careers that contribute to the development of equitable and vibrant communities. Are you passionate about civic engagement and public affairs? Join us for an insightful evening featuring a panel of BIPOC leaders who have excelled in inclusive public service. Gain valuable insights into programs designed to support and uplift BIPOC individuals and discover pathways to professional growth and empowerment. This joint event will be conducted via Zoom and moderated by Prof. Ernita Joaquin and Mr. Jim Schutz, ICMA-SFSU Chapter's Professional Advisor.

Meet the Panelists:

Jamillah Jordan Marin County Equity Director who is doing cutting edge work at the County of Marin. They have approved a Race Equity Action Plan and created the first-ever Participatory Budgeting (PB) process in Marin County! Over 3,600 community members voted on how to spend $2.5 million to improve communities and advance equity in Marin County.

Marissa Sanchez Human Resources Director who has had a successful career in Human Resources in local government including the cities of Fresno and San Rafael, a special district, and community college districts in California. 

Pat Martel who is a retired city manager and the ICMA West Coast Regional Director. Pat is a sought after speaker and was President of ICMA in 2015/16. She is a natural mentor and a wealth of information on California local government. 

Jim Schutz, Panelist and Moderator – Jim is a City Manager in Residence and Advisory Board member of SFSU-MPA, the former City Manager of San Rafael, and the Professional Advisor to ICMA- SFSU Chapter.
