International City and County Management Association Next Generation Initiatives
The SFSU-ICMA chapter’s leaders welcome every PACE student to the Spring semester by sharing our annual report of achievements for 2023! ICMA stands for the premier network of municipal executive association in the world, the International City and County Management Association.
ICMA Student Chapters introduce and integrate students into the local government management profession and familiarize them with members, resources, and the ICMA Code of Ethics. As a part of ICMA's Next Generation Initiatives, chapters exist to establish connections between ICMA, schools, students, state associations, and managers. There are currently about 100 ICMA Student Chapters worldwide. The SF State ICMA Student Chapter, founded in 2017 by student-leaders in the MPA Program and Faculty Advisor Dr. Ernita Joaquin, has conducted projects that allow students to gain insights into government careers, tips for landing leadership roles, participation in regional ICMA Conferences, and develop mentoring relationships with ICMA’s vast network of executives. The chapter has also been recognized by ICMA for its professional development efforts. Of course, SFSU-ICMA also facilitates local volunteer service opportunities and beginning/end-of-year social mixers to build up fun, learning communities among students in MPA/PACE.
