The Department of Health & Human Services’ Office of Minority Health has inducted Professor of Gerontology Darlene Yee-Melichar as co-chair of the Pacific and Southwest Regional Health Equity Council (RHEC IX).

The Regional Health Equity Council (RHEC) is an important and integral component of the Office of Minority Health's National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities. The role of RHEC is to (1) identify key regional health inequity issues and drivers and advance a responsive agenda; (2) create models for and promote cross-sector collaboration through the collective power of organizations represented by the Council; (3) initiate new and support existing regional policies and action to eliminate health disparities; (4) leverage available opportunities to address regional health disparities issues; and (5) convene regional stakeholders and partners to promote health equity.

As co-chair, Yee-Melichar's role is to coordinate the activities of RHEC IX, represent its interests and priorities, and collaborate with other RHEC chairs to advance shared common interests.
