Wiener honored for long-term care advocacy at inaugural Silver Lining Lecture
The first DAAS Community Training & SF State Gerontology Program’s first Silver Lining Lecture, “Aging, Health and Wellness in San Francisco,” was held on September 28.
The sold-out event drew more than 100 guests. Attendees listened to the inspirational keynote speech of State Senator Scott Wiener, Gerontology’s 2018 SF State Long-Term Care Advocate Award recipient, and learned of his legislative agenda for seniors.
The Gerontology Program (School of Public Affairs & Civic Engagment) gratefully acknowledges the facilitators who made it a thought-provoking and informative educational event: Tom Berry, regional director of operations, Sunrise Senior Living; Valerie Coleman, program analyst, SF Department of Aging & Adult Services; and Gwen Harris, geriatric care manager, Palliative Care Program, Seniors at Home.
Our generous sponsors helped underwrite the event, the net proceeds from which will support scholarships for our graduate students. These community partners include:

- Gold: The Carlisle – A Sunrise Living Condominium, Dignity Health
- Silver: Rhoda Goldman Plaza, Eldercare Advocacy Bay Area
- Bronze: Hospice by the Bay, Sahana & Kiron Magal, PMC Pharmacy, Sage Eldercare Solutions
